About CNLU

Chanakya National Law University came into being on 15th July 2006 under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006) and is included in sections 2(f) & 12(B) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956.

CNLU provides a wide range of facilities on its campus for students, faculties, and employees, including specialist clinics and visiting practitioners. The University organizes regular career fairs, workshops, and guidance sessions.

Apart from academics, CNLU offers counseling services to support students in achieving academic and personal goals. Debating, mooting, ADR competitions, and co-curricular activities are a part of the student routine.

Many retired judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts, and senior advocates contribute to teaching and research at CNLU. The university upholds financial autonomy and accountability and provides state-of-the-art infrastructure for legal education.

About CCADR

The Chanakya Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CCADR) was established in 2021 at CNLU, Patna, to promote academic research in dispute resolution.

ADR, being an interdisciplinary field, focuses on:
(a) the study of causes and motives behind disputes;
(b) institutions for dispute resolution; and
(c) laws and regulations ensuring fair outcomes.

CCADR aims to develop a conducive environment for students and researchers to build ADR skills and compete nationally and internationally. It promotes Lok Adalat as an indigenous form of dispute resolution and collaborates with government bodies and institutions globally.

In the future, CCADR plans to offer certifications, training, diploma, and degree programs in ADR.

First Edition (2023)

The first CNLU National Mediation Competition was inaugurated virtually on 21 January 2023 under the aegis of CCADR.

Chief Guest: Tariq Khan (Registrar, IAMC Hyderabad)
Dignitaries: Justice Mridula Mishra (Retd.), Mr. Manoranjan Prasad Srivastava, Justice Mohit Shah, Justice Dr. Anushman, Mr. Varun Pathak (Partner, SAM & Co.), Ms. Ankit Khushu (Partner, Kachwaha & Partners), and Mr. Rama Subramanian.

The Valedictory Ceremony was attended by Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, then Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

Second Edition (2024)

The second edition was held virtually on 17 February 2024.

Speakers: Ms. Alix Povey (COO, Mediation Chambers), Mr. Param Bhamra (Founding Partner, Mediate Guru), Ms. Mahak Rathee (Founder, ADR HOC), and Prof. (Dr.) Faizan Mustafa (Vice-Chancellor, CNLU).

Adjudicators: Mr. Rama Subramanian, Ms. Vagisha, among others.

The competition concluded with a valedictory ceremony.

Third Edition (2025)

The third edition took place on 24 January 2025.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Rajesh Sharma
Guest Speakers: Mr. Param Bhamra and Ms. Mahak Rathee
Dignitaries: Prof. (Dr.) Faizan Mustafa (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Singh (Registrar).

The competition concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony.

Fourth Edition (2026)

Building upon the success of earlier editions, CCADR announces the Fourth Edition of the CNLU National Mediation Competition (NMC 4.0).

  • Hybrid format

  • Inaugural Ceremony: 10 January 2026

  • Preliminary & Quarter-Final Rounds: 11 January 2026

  • Semi-Final & Final Rounds: 25 January 2026 (on CNLU Campus)

The event aims to deepen understanding of mediation complexities by engaging with practitioners, experts, and academicians. It expects wide participation from universities across India, continuing its legacy as a premier ADR competition.
