ABOUT THE ORGANISER / COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY

The Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ) was established in 2020 under the aegis of Xavier Law School at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. The society aims to promote excellence in legal education, advocacy, and alternative dispute resolution. Since its inception, XSLAJ has organised eight intra-university competitions and five national-level competitions in collaboration with reputed law firms, building a strong reputation in legal academia and practical advocacy training.

DETAILS ABOUT THE EVENT / OPPORTUNITY

The 4th Xavier Mediation Competition 2026 (XMC’26) will be conducted from 26th to 28th March 2026 at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. The competition is organised in association with Fox & Mondal and Khaitan & Co. as Title Partners, and R. L. Dutt & Co., Guha & Co., and VV Law Chambers (VVLC) as Associate Title Partners.

The event aims to promote the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a collaborative and efficient mechanism for resolving disputes. Participants will develop key professional skills such as negotiation, communication, mediation strategy, and problem-solving.

The three-day competition will consist of four rounds:

  • Preliminary Rounds

  • Quarterfinals

  • Semifinals

  • Final Round

WHO IS IT FOR / ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE

  • Students pursuing 3-year or 5-year LL.B. programmes from institutions recognised by the Bar Council of India.

  • LL.M. students are also eligible.

  • Participants may belong to any year or semester.

  • Cross-semester, cross-institution, and independent teams are allowed.

TEAM COMPOSITION

Each team must consist of three members:

  • One Client

  • One Counsel

  • One Mediator

The Client and Counsel form the Negotiating Pair, while the Mediator participates individually. Roles cannot be changed after registration confirmation.

FEE DETAILS

  • Domestic Teams: INR 5,400

  • Teams from SAARC countries: USD 70

  • Teams from Non-SAARC countries: USD 110

PRIZES

Total Prize Pool: ₹3,00,000+

  • Best Negotiating Pair – ₹1,50,000 + XMC-Champions Cup

  • Best Mediator – ₹75,000 + XMC-Magis Cup

  • Runner-Up Negotiating Pair – ₹50,000

  • Runner-Up Mediator – ₹25,000

  • Best Counsel – XMC-Legatus Cup

All winners will receive Medals and Certificates of Merit.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Winners will receive paid internship opportunities with reputed legal organisations and law firms including:
