What is AILET UG and Who Should Apply?

AILET UG provides admission to the five-year integrated undergraduate law programme offered by National Law University Delhi.

The programme combines undergraduate education with professional legal studies. It is intended for students wishing to pursue legal education immediately after Class 12.

Candidates interested in advocacy, judicial services, corporate law, legal research and public policy may consider this programme.

Difference Between AILET and CLAT

AILET and the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) are separate examinations.

AILET is conducted by National Law University Delhi for its prescribed programmes.

CLAT is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities for admission to participating institutions.

A CLAT score cannot replace AILET for regular admission to NLU Delhi’s B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme.

Candidates seeking admission to NLU Delhi through the Indian-national merit route must appear for AILET.

Separate admission arrangements apply to Foreign National and OCI/PIO categories.

The official NLU Delhi FAQs clarify these distinctions.

The official application correction facility is limited to the period announced by the university. Candidates should therefore avoid relying upon corrections after registration.

AILET UG 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed educational qualifications and minimum marks.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination under the 10+2 system, or an equivalent examination.

The minimum qualifying marks differ according to category.

CategoryMinimum Class 12 marks
General / EWS45%
Other Backward Classes (OBC)42%
Scheduled Castes (SC)40%
Scheduled Tribes (ST)40%
Persons with Disabilities (PwD)40%

Candidates should calculate their marks according to the requirements applicable to their qualifying examination.

Can Class 12 Appearing Students Apply?

Yes. Candidates appearing in their qualifying examination or awaiting results may apply for AILET UG 2027.

However, they must establish their eligibility by the cut-off date notified with the entrance examination results.

Candidates placed in a compartment during the admission year will be treated as ineligible under the published rules.

Applicants should therefore distinguish eligibility to appear in AILET from eligibility for final admission.

Age Limit

There is no prescribed minimum or maximum age limit for appearing in AILET UG 2027.

Candidates must nevertheless satisfy the educational qualifications.

Foreign National and OCI/PIO Eligibility

Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO applicants have separate admission arrangements.

Foreign Nationals applying under their designated category must satisfy the prescribed academic qualifications. They are exempted from taking AILET.

OCI/PIO applicants may also apply under the prescribed separate category without taking the entrance examination.

OCI/PIO candidates who additionally seek admission under the Indian-national category must submit a separate application and appear for AILET.

The university prepares merit lists for the Foreign National and OCI/PIO categories using qualifying examination marks.

Further details are available through the official AILET UG eligibility page.

AILET UG 2027 Examination Pattern

AILET UG 2027 contains three objective sections.

Each correct answer carries one mark. Every incorrect response attracts a deduction of 0.25 marks.

SectionSubjectQuestionsMarksWeightage
AEnglish Language505033.33%
BCurrent Affairs and General Knowledge303020%
CLogical Reasoning707046.67%
Total150150100%

Candidates have 120 minutes to complete the examination.

The paper is conducted offline using OMR answer sheets.

Marking Scheme

The prescribed marking rules are:

  • Correct answer: +1 mark.
  • Incorrect answer: −0.25 marks.
  • Unanswered question: No negative marking.

Four incorrect answers result in a total deduction of one mark.

The maximum score is 150.

Is Legal Knowledge Required for AILET UG?

NLU Delhi expressly states that prior legal knowledge is not necessary.

Legal principles may appear within Logical Reasoning questions to test reasoning ability.

However, the examination does not require technical legal understanding.

Candidates should therefore concentrate on comprehension and logical application rather than memorising entire statutes.

The complete pattern is published on the official AILET UG examination scheme page.

AILET UG 2027 Detailed Syllabus

The university officially identifies three examination sections.

It does not prescribe an exhaustive chapter-wise list for every topic.

The following preparation areas are based on the published scheme and the skills commonly tested in actual papers.

Section A: English Language

This section contains 50 questions worth 50 marks.

English Language assesses comprehension, interpretation and effective understanding of written material.

Important preparation areas include:

  • Reading comprehension.
  • Main ideas and supporting arguments.
  • Inference-based questions.
  • Vocabulary and contextual meanings.
  • Synonyms and antonyms.
  • Grammar and sentence construction.
  • Identification of grammatical errors.
  • Sentence correction.
  • Interpretation of tone and purpose.
  • Logical relationships within passages.

Candidates should practise reading passages carefully before selecting answers.

Understanding the author’s argument is often more useful than memorising vocabulary lists without context.

Strong reading skills also support Logical Reasoning performance.

Section B: Current Affairs and General Knowledge

This section contains 30 questions worth 30 marks.

Candidates should prepare important contemporary developments and foundational general knowledge.

Relevant preparation areas include:

  • Major national developments.
  • Important international events.
  • Government policies and programmes.
  • Constitutional and legal developments.
  • Important judicial decisions.
  • International organisations.
  • Awards and honours.
  • Science and technology developments.
  • Environmental issues.
  • Significant historical events.
  • Indian polity and governance.
  • Important personalities and institutions.

The university does not prescribe a fixed current affairs coverage period in its published section-wise scheme.

Candidates should avoid assuming that only a particular number of preceding months will be examined.

Regular revision of significant developments is therefore advisable.

Section C: Logical Reasoning

Logical Reasoning contains 70 questions carrying 70 marks.

It is the largest section in the examination.

The section represents approximately 46.67% of total marks.

Relevant preparation areas include:

  • Statements and conclusions.
  • Assumptions and inferences.
  • Strengthening and weakening arguments.
  • Identification of logical fallacies.
  • Cause-and-effect relationships.
  • Analogies.
  • Critical reasoning.
  • Deductive and inductive reasoning.
  • Analytical arrangements and puzzles.
  • Relationships and sequences.
  • Principle-based reasoning.
  • Evaluation of arguments.
  • Logical consistency and contradiction.

Questions involving legal principles may appear within this section.

For such questions, candidates should apply the stated principle to the supplied facts.

Prior legal education is unnecessary.

Candidates must distinguish conclusions supported by the information from unsupported assumptions.

Because Logical Reasoning carries the highest weightage, sustained practice is especially valuable.

Does AILET UG Have Separate Mathematics or Legal Aptitude Sections?

No. The published AILET UG 2027 scheme lists only English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, and Logical Reasoning.

Mathematics and Legal Aptitude are not separately prescribed examination sections.

This distinction matters for candidates simultaneously preparing for CLAT UG.

Candidates should use the correct examination scheme rather than applying CLAT’s section-wise distribution to AILET.

AILET UG 2027 Seat Matrix and Reservation

National Law University Delhi has published an intake of 120 undergraduate seats.

Of these, 110 fall within the domestic category matrix, while 10 are allocated to Foreign National and OCI/PIO categories.

Category-Wise Seat Distribution

The university also provides horizontal reservations under its prescribed admission policy.

These include:

  • 5% horizontal reservation for Persons with Disabilities.
  • 30% horizontal reservation for eligible women candidates.

The 30% women’s reservation operates horizontally and is not an additional block of seats.

OBC and EWS Certificate Requirements

Candidates claiming OBC Non-Creamy Layer reservation must possess an eligible certificate.

The published rules specify that the OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate should be issued on or after 1 April 2026.

The EWS income and asset certificate must also satisfy the prescribed validity requirements.

Candidates should consult the official seat matrix and reservation rules.

NLU Delhi B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Course Fees

Candidates should distinguish application fees from university admission and academic fees.

NLU Delhi publishes separate fee heads for undergraduate education.

Selected fee components include:

Fee componentPublished amount
Admission fee, one time₹10,000
Annual tuition fee₹1,63,000
Academic services and facilities, annually₹43,000
Student welfare fund, annually₹7,000
Utility services, annually₹20,000
Refundable estate deposit, one time₹25,000
Residence charges, annually, if allotted₹92,000
Mess charges, annually₹50,000

These are individual fee heads, not a final personalised payable amount.

The university also prescribes annual increases in specified tuition and residence charges.

Hostel accommodation is limited and is not guaranteed merely because a candidate secures admission.

Candidates should verify the final payable amount using the official undergraduate fee schedule.

AILET UG 2027 Selection and Counselling Process

Admission through the Indian-national merit route is based on AILET performance and applicable reservation requirements.

The university will publish the counselling arrangements when examination results become available.

Candidates selected for admission will be informed through the prescribed official channels.

AILET UG Tie-Breaking Rules

When two or more candidates obtain equal total marks, merit is determined using the following order:

  1. Higher marks in Logical Reasoning.
  2. Higher age, if the tie continues.
  3. Computerised draw of lots, if required.

These rules are expressly stated in the AILET UG 2027 examination scheme.

Documents Required During Counselling

Candidates may be required to produce:

  • Class 10 marks statement.
  • Class 12 marks statement.
  • Latest character certificate.
  • Transfer certificate.
  • Applicable reservation certificate.
  • Other documents prescribed in the admission notice.

Reservation claims remain subject to verification.

Candidates must complete admission formalities within the deadline specified by the university.

Failure to comply may result in cancellation of the offered seat.

AILET UG Previous-Year Question Papers (PYQs) and Answer Keys

Previous-year question papers help candidates understand the actual structure and difficulty of AILET.

They are especially useful for analysing Logical Reasoning and passage-based English questions.

The following resources contain authentic AILET B.A. LL.B. question papers and available answer keys.

Examination yearQuestion paperAnswer key

Candidates can also access NLU Delhi’s official compilation of previous-year B.A. LL.B. question papers.

This official archive is a large PDF, so it may take longer to load.

The AglaSem links are third-party reproductions of past examination papers. Candidates should prefer official final answer keys if any discrepancy appears.

How to Analyse AILET Previous-Year Papers

Begin with AILET 2026 and proceed to the 2025 and 2024 papers.

Attempt each examination under a two-hour time limit.

After completing the paper:

  1. Calculate the score using the prescribed marking scheme.
  2. Compare responses with the correct year’s final answer key.
  3. Identify the sections where most mistakes occurred.
  4. Examine whether incorrect responses resulted from weak knowledge or reasoning errors.
  5. Record recurring mistakes for targeted revision.

Do not simply calculate marks and proceed to another paper.

Detailed error analysis helps convert past papers into effective preparation material.

AILET UG 2027 Preparation Strategy

An effective preparation plan should reflect the official examination weightages.

Prioritise Logical Reasoning

Logical Reasoning contributes 70 marks out of 150.

Candidates should practise analytical reasoning, critical reasoning and argument evaluation regularly.

The goal should be accurate interpretation rather than mechanical memorisation.

Improve English Comprehension

English Language carries 50 marks.

Daily reading and passage-based exercises can improve understanding and speed.

Candidates should practise identifying arguments, contextual meanings and logical relationships.

Revise Current Affairs Consistently

Current Affairs and General Knowledge contribute 30 marks.

Candidates should maintain concise revision notes on important national and international developments.

Revision should focus on both factual information and relevant context.

Practise with Timed Mock Tests

AILET requires candidates to attempt up to 150 questions within 120 minutes.

Time management is therefore an important preparation concern.

Mocks help candidates decide which questions deserve immediate attention and which should be revisited.

Suggested Weekly Preparation Schedule

ActivitySuggested frequency
Logical ReasoningDaily
English comprehensionDaily
Current AffairsDaily
General Knowledge revisionFour days weekly
Sectional testsThree to four times weekly
Full-length mock examinationAccording to preparation stage
Previous-year paper analysisWeekly
Error revisionAfter every test

This is a recommended study framework rather than an official NLU Delhi timetable.

Candidates should adjust study time based on their individual performance.
