ABOUT THE ORGANISER / COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY

Maharaja Surajmal Institute is affiliated with GGSIP University, New Delhi, accredited with NAAC ‘A’ Grade, and approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

Aequitas, the Moot Court Society of Maharaja Surajmal Institute, is organising the 1st All India Maharaja Surajmal Moot Court Competition 2026 to provide law students with an opportunity to develop and showcase their advocacy, legal research, and courtroom argumentation skills.

DETAILS ABOUT THE EVENT / OPPORTUNITY

The 1st All India Maharaja Surajmal Moot Court Competition 2026 is designed to provide law students from across India with meaningful exposure to contemporary legal issues and a platform for rigorous academic and practical learning.

The competition will focus on Criminal Law and will involve issues arising under the new criminal laws — BNS, BNSS and BSA.

Moot Problem Highlights

The Moot Proposition deals with complex issues including:

  1. Circumstantial evidence and the ‘Last-Seen’ theory.

  2. Reversal of acquittal by High Courts.

  3. Constitutional validity of Trial in Absentia under Section 356 BNSS for proclaimed offenders.

WHO IS IT FOR / ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE

  • Open to students pursuing 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree courses from any recognised university/institution in India.

  • Each team must consist of 3 members — 2 Speakers and 1 Researcher.

  • A maximum of 3 teams per institution is permitted.

MODE OF THE EVENT

Hybrid — Online + Offline

The Online Rounds will include the Researcher’s Test, Prelims and Quarter-Finals.

The Semi-Finals and Finals will be conducted offline.

LOCATION & VENUE

New Delhi, India

Venue: Maharaja Surajmal Institute, New Delhi

The offline rounds, comprising the Semi-Finals and Finals, will be held at Maharaja Surajmal Institute.
